red norvo - in chronology (1933-1936)
have it.
this is a comprehensive collection of red norvo's mid-'30s body of work. most of this is just run-of-the-mill big band music, but some of these tracks are stripped down and really showcase his abilities as an excellent vibraphone player and songwriter. songs like "in a mist" and "dance of the octopus" are weird and almost creepy. i really enjoy red norvo's music and i hope you do too. also, here's a great picture of red from 1969.
u.s. maple - talker (1999)
have it.
this is my favorite album by one of my favorite bands. their push and pull dynamic is right on with this release. tension abounds and the riffs deliver. for those of you who like to read the words along with the music, here's a scan of the lyric sheet. also, michael gira of the band swans produced this album.

earth - sunn amps and smashed guitars live (2001)
have it.
this starts off with a live recording from a set in london, in 1995. dylan carlson, the proprietor of earth, on guitar and the original bassist for the band anvil, ian dickson, droning, feeding back, and riffing for around 32 minutes. the four following tracks are unreleased cuts from 1990. they're heavy, they've got dimension, and kurt cobain does some vocal work on the track "divine and bright". also, these tracks have the same line-up as the extra-capsular extraction (1991) release, with joe preston on bass and drum programming, and dave harwell also on bass, backing dylan carlson.

black eyes - black eyes (2003)
have it.
i bought this album when i was in high school and the dudes at the record store were all stoked on my purchase. i spun it when i got home and i realized why. this is the first of the two full-lengths that black eyes released and, front to back, it's a winner. completely full of energy with a rotating cast of the same five people, constantly switching instruments and vocal duties. black eyes were on dischord records and this album was produced by ian mackaye.
